A Good/Bad Reflection on You
In Frozen, two different moments show a parallel between Elsa and Hans regarding their leadership over Arendelle, with Elsa as the true ruler and Hans being the one who covets her position.
When Elsa sings “For the First Time in Forever,” she looks out of the window in the library. When she does, she sees her reflection from the right panel, and also other people outside, which represents her showing care and concern for them.
Then when Hans reveals his true nature to Anna, he does so in the library. After he refuses to kiss her, he walks over to the same window. When he looks through it, he sees his reflection from the left panel instead, and only sees himself, which represents that he cares only about himself.
Both characters are known for putting on acts during the film, and each of these moments take place when they are being their true selves. And of course, their acts and true personalities are the complete antitheses of each other: Elsa acts cold and uncaring, but she is very kind, selfless, and caring to those around her. while Hans acts very caring and noble, but he is truly very cold, ruthless, and will not hesitate to do wrong to get what he wants.
To add a little bit of humor to this, if Hans had decided to go through with marrying Elsa, I wonder how soon it would take for him to realize just how un-compatible they are. ;)
